You do ask questions that need a lot of soul searching Trudy! I’m sure that whichever of us wins the money will put it to excellent use… But to answer your question as to why I’m the best person…

I really love talking about science and trying to show people that even if you think it’s really hard, there can be a way of looking at it that makes it easier. I want to make a board game that not only shows how our synchrotron works, but might get people accidentally understanding the science too.

      As Mary Poppins says
“In every job that must be done there is an element of fun, you find the fun and snap! The job’s a game!”

I want to help people find the fun in science. 😉

That is why I would be the best person to have the money.

(That was a hard question to answer!)

      Stay awesome.

      Ed

      Hi Trudy!

I think all projects proposed are extremely interesting and everyone would make very good use of the money. Why I think I am the best person to be given the money?

I think that doing experiments is great fun and often makes it easier to understand how Nature works. When I was a student, I always looked forward to the laboratory lessons at school and I often got inspiration from them to try my own weird experiments at home (thank you mum for all your patience and understanding! 🙂 ).

Experiments got me hooked on science!

Therefore, I think it would be a good idea to use the money to buy and experimental kit consisting of components used by real scientists in their labs, and, since I am in the Light Zone, this kit will be used for doing experiments with light.

My idea is to bring the kit to schools and allow students to try things out themselves and get inspired: they may even discover that there is a scientist inside them! 😉

I wouldn’t think of it in terms of who’s the best person to be given the money – I would look what they are going to do with the money!

I would love to help buy a 3D printer for a school, so that children can learn to use this wonderful technology to make loads of cool things! I think giving children a new way to learn using technology is pretty cool – maybe even the best?…

      Hi Trudy,

I feel I have good competition on here, so all 5 of us are deserving. But for me I see Computing as a subject is often ignored, or seen as geeky and often not something that many people want to do. There are very few women in the subject area, and equally most people have been put off the subject before college. This is a great shame as I am sure many more people could bring their tallent to this area, that pass it off as not for them. For something that I love doing and see as interesting and rewarding, I would want to give more demonstrations using things that everyone has access to such as Lego and Raspberry Pi’s to show others why it is interesting and I believe cool to do.
